Good evening, among Whittier voters who have already voted so far and who have chosen to participate in Whittier 360's exit poll, Whittier City Councilmember Jessica Martinez is on the verge of possibly become the first Whittier Councilmember and resident of Whittier to win a seat in the state assembly. Other candidates who won the assembly seat have moved to Whittier after winning the election. Both Calderon and Martinez would be the first to win the seat their first try while living in Whittier.
If she wins, Martinez will have broken the Whittier Curse which is that once a person is elected to Whittier City Council, her chances of getting a seat in a higher office are non existent. She would also be the first employee of a local Whittier school district to elected to the state assembly.
