Whittier, CA – June 12, 2025
Whittier 360 News Network has received an official response from Assistant City Manager Shannon DeLong, addressing the events that unfolded outside the DoubleTree Hotel in Uptown Whittier on the night of June 11.
Key Takeaways from the City's Statement:
The rumor that ICE or DHS agents were staying at the hotel was false.
A white van, believed by some protesters to be a federal vehicle, was vandalized, but it belonged to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department and had no connection to immigration enforcement. The deputies were staying overnight following a routine inmate transport.
A portion of the protest turned aggressive, resulting in broken lobby windows, entry into the hotel, and damage to several guest vehicles.
In response to an urgent plea from hotel management, a regional law enforcement operation led by Whittier PD dispersed the crowd by approximately 2:00 a.m.
No arrests or injuries were reported.
The City acknowledged community fears stemming from increased federal immigration enforcement activity in the region and urged the public to share information responsibly to prevent misinformation-fueled unrest.
Whittier 360 is committed to verifying facts as they unfold.
