BREAKING NEWS: GASCON RECALL CAMPAIGN SUBMITS ENOUGH SIGNATURES TO FORCE RECALL ONTO BALLOT
You are reading this for the first time on Whittier 360 News Network.
Supporters of the campaign recall Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon have submitted more than half a million signatures to the Los Angeles County Registrar’s office. The total number of signatures submitted, 717,000 is more than the minimum number of required valid signatures which is 567,000. The minimum number was set by the County of Los Angeles.
County employees will now have to go through the petition pages and verify each signature’s validity in order to determine whether or not the recall has officially qualified for the ballot.
Gascon has come under heavy fire for releasing child rapists, mass murderers, cop killers, and other dangerous criminals from the county’s jails into local communities where they proceeded to commit more violent crimes against innocent law-abiding citizens.
The submission comes on the deadline day for the petitions to be submitted.
One major critic of Gascon, LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said Gascon had rejected over 13,000 cases from his office. Gascon has also been criticized by employees of his own office who say he gives special preferential treatment to criminals over crime victims.
To reiterate, the Gascon Recall has submitted enough signatures to qualify for the ballot and may be put on the ballot for this November.
This is a breaking news development. We will update once the county has verified the number of qualifying signatures.
