THERE WAS NO SHOOTING AT MCDONALDS ACCORDING TO WHITTIER POLICE DEPARTMENT

Rebecca Canales

Responding to Facebook and other social media rumours about claims of shooting or a body being found at McDonald's a week or two ago, Whittier's Interim Police Chief Aviv Bar released a statement last night saying there was no shooting and no body at McDonalds.

Saying that officers were responding to an incident at the location, Bar said, "A male entered the restaurant acting bizarre and confronted one of the employees. Other employees stepped in to assist their co-worker and the verbal confrontation elevated. Our officers arrived on scene and conducted a field mental health evaluation on the customer. As a result, he was transported to a local hospital for a mental health commitment. There were no injuries to anyone involved."

After mentioning the lack of long term solutions to the city's mental health crises, Bar urged readers not to spread social media rumors, stating, " If you receive third hand information about an incident involving our officers, and posting the information on social media may cause panic or safety concerns for your fellow community members, please call our station first.... and we will provide you with the facts that we can share at the time."
