Victim Identified in South Whittier Shooting; Investigation Ongoing

Authorities have identified the victim in a fatal shooting that occurred late Saturday night near Burrito Track.

On Monday, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner identified the victim as Adrian Coreno, 19.

According to investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Coreno was walking northbound on Mills Avenue with two minors when an occupant of a passing vehicle fired shots at them. Coreno was shot in the torso.

Investigators said Coreno ran from the area after being struck and collapsed near Burrito Track, where he later died from his injuries. The suspects fled the scene in their vehicle, traveling southbound on Mills Avenue.

No arrests have been announced.

Authorities stated the shooting is being investigated as potentially gang-related. However, investigators have not confirmed any gang affiliation involving Coreno, the minors who were present, or the suspects.

As of Monday evening, a memorial with flowers and candles had been placed outside Burrito Track, reflecting the community’s response to the fatal shooting.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Lit candles and red roses arranged on a street in remembrance, beside a trash can, creating a somber mood. Dimly lit urban setting.
A memorial of candles and flowers sits on the ground in front of Burrito Track, honoring the life of a 19-year-old man who tragically lost his life to gun violence while with two minors.
