While conducting preliminary research for the 2022 Whittier City Council election, Whittier 360 has found that Whittier Mayor Joe Vinatieri has not yet filed for relection which is just a little bit unusual because this is the time of year when the incumbents begin filing their reelection committees. So far both Councilmembers Fernando Dutra and Henry Bouchot have filed for reelection and have begun accepting donations to their 2020 campaigns.
It is possible that Mayor Vinatieri will file sometime over the summer and begin accepting contributions at that time.
If he choses not to run that would make the 2022 Whittier Mayoral Election wide open. But if he files over the summer or closer to the election season's official filing date, that could complicate things for aspiring mayors in the community.
