A high-speed pursuit involving multiple law enforcement agencies came to an abrupt end Thursday night when two suspects fled onto the campus of Mulberry Elementary School in Whittier.

According to eyewitness accounts and on-scene reporting by Whittier 360 News Network, the pursuit concluded around 8:00 p.m. after a vehicle attempted to evade officers by turning into the school’s driveway. The suspects exited their SUV and ran onto the campus, prompting a rapid multi-agency response. Another eyewitness who observed the incident from across the street said one of the school’s custodians appeared visibly startled when the suspects and pursuing officers entered the campus. According to the witness, the custodian “froze in place and threw his hands up” as law enforcement converged on the area. Deputies quickly secured the campus to ensure the safety of any remaining personnel.

Deputies and officers from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Whittier Police Department, and California Highway Patrol quickly established a perimeter around the school. One suspect was taken into custody soon after, while a second was detained a short time later on school grounds.

By approximately 8:38 p.m., both individuals were in custody. Deputies continued to conduct a thorough search of the SUV believed to have been involved in the pursuit. A tow truck was standing by as law enforcement examined the vehicle.

Whittier 360 News Network did not take or publish photos or video of the suspects being detained. Our reporter on scene chose to focus on documenting the overall law enforcement response rather than capturing identifiable images of individuals in custody. This decision aligns with our newsroom’s ethical policy prioritizing privacy, accuracy, and respect for due process—especially in active investigations where no formal charges have yet been announced.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department appeared to be the lead agency, with support from Whittier Police and the California Highway Patrol.

Further details regarding the suspects, the cause of the pursuit, and any potential charges are expected once the Sheriff’s Department completes its preliminary investigation.

Whittier 360 News Network will continue to monitor this developing story and provide updates as new information becomes available.
