Whittier 360 News Network is taking a significant step forward in its mission to serve the greater Whittier region: we are filing Articles of Incorporation with the State of California as the first step toward achieving 501(c)(3) nonprofit status.
This is not a routine administrative matter. It is a declaration of long-term commitment to this community and to the kind of journalism this region deserves.
Who We Are and What We Cover
Whittier 360 News Network is a hyperlocal civic news organization serving the greater Whittier region of Los Angeles County. Our coverage area extends well beyond the incorporated city limits to include the unincorporated communities of Whittier, Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs, La Mirada, La Habra, La Habra Heights, Hacienda Heights, City of Industry, and the communities surrounding Whittier Narrows, Rose Hills, and Rio Hondo College.
This is a region of hundreds of thousands of residents that has never had a single dedicated civic news organization covering all of it — until now.
Our most relied-upon work is our campaign finance analyses. Every election cycle, residents throughout the greater Whittier area turn to Whittier 360 to understand who is funding local candidates, where that money is coming from, and what it means for their vote. In an era of growing outside interest group influence in local elections, that kind of transparency journalism is not optional — it is essential to an informed electorate.
We deliver our coverage in every format our community needs: written reporting, immersive 360 video, and live streaming. This June and July, Whittier 360 will be live streaming coverage of the America 250 semiquincentennial celebrations in Washington D.C. — bringing a defining national civic milestone directly to our local audience in real time.
Our Editorial Values
Whittier 360 News Network operates according to a clear and unwavering set of editorial principles.
We present both sides of every issue — neutrally, without favor or disfavor toward any person, group, party, or ideology. We do not endorse political candidates. Coverage decisions are driven exclusively by what matters to the residents of our region, not by advertisers, donors, or outside interests. When we make an error, we correct it publicly and promptly.
We also bring to this work a perspective that is genuinely absent from the American media landscape: an Ethnic American viewpoint — the perspective of people descended from the founders of the United States of America. This is not a political position. It is a cultural and historical lens that has been systematically overlooked by modern journalism, and its presence in our coverage makes our reporting more complete, more honest, and more representative of the full American experience.
Whittier 360 does not operate as a platform for any political party, ideology, or outside interest group. We report the news. We follow the money. We let the community decide.
Why Nonprofit Status Matters
Local news is facing a national crisis. Newsrooms have been consolidating and closing for more than a decade, leaving communities without the civic coverage that holds local government accountable and keeps residents informed.
Whittier 360 was founded to fill that gap in our region. Achieving 501(c)(3) nonprofit status gives us the organizational structure to do this work sustainably, transparently, and in permanent service to the community rather than to commercial interests.
It also enables us to give back. We are currently organizing Whittier's first-ever Community Christmas Gala — a nonprofit fundraising event in which net revenue will be distributed 50% to Whittier 360 operations and 50% to other local nonprofits serving the greater Whittier area. Details on the Gala will be announced in the coming months.
We Are Seeking Board of Directors Members
As part of this organizational transition, Whittier 360 News Network is actively seeking qualified individuals to serve on our Board of Directors.
We are looking for community-minded people from a wide range of backgrounds — civic leaders, educators, business owners, community advocates, legal and financial professionals, and anyone with a genuine commitment to local journalism and public accountability.
You do not need to be a journalist. You do need to care about your community.

What Comes Next
The filing of our Articles of Incorporation marks the beginning of a new chapter for Whittier 360 News Network. We are building something that belongs to this community — a permanent, independent, community-accountable news organization for the greater Whittier region.
We are grateful for every reader, source, and community member who has supported this work. The best is ahead.
