WHITTIER AREA FIRST WEEKLY COVID DATA REPORT FOR 2021

Rebecca Canales

On the second day of 2021, Whittier Narrows suffered its first loss from COVID 19, as one person has died from COVID 19 in Whittier Narrows for the first time since the pandemic began. Elsewhere, there are widespread reports that Whittier Area homeless people have begun to get COVID 19. During 2020, the homeless were largely protected from COVID 19 simply by the fact that most communities didn't want them around and nearly no one wanted to be near homeless people and that rather bigoted attitude actually protected the homeless from the pandemic but that protection appears to be gone in 2021 as more people who were previously protected from eviction have lost that protection due to the expired ban on evictions. The people who are losing that protection are taking the virus with them onto the streets and infecting the longer term homeless.

As you can see, I am still trying to get the videos down to 3 minutes, though the weekly reports will be longer because they also go over the daily data for that Saturday.

Here is the data report for the week ending January 2, 2021
