Sources say the huge scope of the raids was negatively impacting Trump's own businesses which recently saw ICE activity.
Earlier in the week President Trump had posted on TruthSocial that the raids were so successful they were beginning to hurt the businesses of his supporters.
Based on the new executive order, a top ICE official issued the following guidance to lower level employees of the agency, "“Effective today, please hold on all work site enforcement investigations/operations on agriculture (including aquaculture and meat packing plants), restaurants and operating hotels.”
The order also states that people not suspected of committing any other crimes, known as collaterals, are not to be taken into custody and that agents should stop grabbing random people off the street.
The new guidance has left ICE agents confused who just yesterday were under heavy pressure to find 3,000 people per day to arrest.
To ensure balance and clarity of the situation in Whittier, Whittier 360 News Network is actively working to get answers about the events that unfolded the other night near the DoubleTree Hotel, where an unlawful assembly was declared—reportedly for the first time in the city's history.
People believed at the time to be federal agents in tactical gear were seen on site, and multiple law enforcement agencies responded, including Whittier PD, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, and others. Reports from eyewitnesses allege that objects were thrown, property was damaged, and outside agitators may have infiltrated what began as a protest.
To ensure accurate and responsible coverage, we have formally reached out to the following agencies and officials for clarification and comment:
U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)
Whittier Police Department
Mayor Joe Vinatieri and the Whittier City Council A response from the city and the DoubleTree noted that no federal agents were staying at the hotel and that the van that was vandalized belonged to the Santa Clara Sheriff's Department, not to ICE. The statement was supported by in depth analysis of the initial video that led to the protest and violence at that event which was not authorized by the DoubleTree. The type of vehicle and the condition it was in verified it was not an ICE vehicle. We did receive a response from DHS on the incident warning they would prosecute anyone who attacks a law enforcement officer. We have sent a follow up email and will provide a fuller more balanced report when and if we receive a response.
As soon as we receive any official statements or responses, we will provide our readers with updates both here and on our website.
