A shooting has been reported at Burrito Track, located at the intersection of Mills Avenue and Mulberry Drive, directly next to a nearby apartment complex.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies have established a large active crime scene that extends well beyond the restaurant itself. Sheriff’s tape currently blocks off a significant portion of the shopping center parking lot, as well as Dicky Street, which runs alongside the apartment building across from the restaurant. The Southbound lane of Mills Ave starting at Mulberry is now blocked as of 630 pm as part of the active crime scene.
According to information provided by a deputy on scene, residents of the apartment building were informed that they were inside an active crime scene. Deputies advised that residents may remain inside their apartments or leave the area temporarily, but are not permitted to walk around outside while the investigation is underway.
Shortly after, gates to the apartment building were closed, preventing entry or exit. As a result:
Residents already inside are sheltering in place
Residents returning home are not being allowed to enter
Both the street and alley on either side of the building are blocked off
Neighbors were notified of the situation, including residents whose family members were expected to return home and would be unable to access the building.
At this time, no official information has been released regarding possible injuries, suspects, or what led to the shooting. The scene remains active and heavily secured.
This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as soon as confirmed information becomes available. Update: 7:16 pm Additional context has emerged from residents near the scene of the shooting at Burrito Track, located at the intersection of Mills Avenue and Mulberry Drive.
One nearby resident reported not hearing the gunfire, explaining they were wearing noise-canceling headphones while working on music at the time of the incident. The first indication something was wrong came when a family member called to interrupt the session, at which point the police activity became apparent.
A neighbor downstairs stated that she did hear the sound, describing it as consistent with a possible drive-by shooting. However, she also noted uncertainty due to the area frequently experiencing fireworks, firecrackers, vehicle backfires, and other loud noises, which can make it difficult for residents to immediately distinguish gunfire from other disturbances.
Law enforcement has not confirmed whether the shooting was a drive-by or released details regarding the number of shots fired, injuries, or suspect information. Deputies continue to treat the area as an active and expanding crime scene, including portions of Mills Avenue, Dicky Street, and the surrounding shopping center.
These resident accounts are preliminary and unconfirmed and are being shared strictly as firsthand observations while authorities continue their investigation.
This remains a developing story, and updates will follow as official information is released. Update 8:04 pm UPDATE — Crime Scene Expands; Major Community Disruption
The active investigation near Burrito Track has expanded further.
In addition to the earlier closure of southbound traffic, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies have now blocked off the northbound lanes of Mills Avenue, beginning in front of Golden Ox. This effectively shuts down both directions of Mills Avenue in the area.
A law-enforcement helicopter is now overhead as the investigation continues. Authorities have not released information regarding the reason for the helicopter’s presence, nor have they provided details about suspects or injuries.
Burrito Track is one of the most popular takeout restaurants in the Whittier Area, and the extensive closures around Mills Avenue, Dicky Street, and the surrounding shopping center represent a significant disruption to nearby residents and local businesses, particularly during a normally busy evening period.
The scene remains active, and access restrictions are still in place. Update 4:00 am 12/21/2025 Scene Fully Cleared After Overnight Closures
As of approximately 4:00 a.m., the law enforcement activity near Burrito Track has fully cleared, and all previously restricted areas are now open.
As of around 10:00 p.m. last night, the active crime scene had expanded to include additional surrounding areas, including the parking lot of CVS Pharmacy, with law enforcement still present and multiple streets blocked off. When checked early this morning, all tape had been removed, deputies had departed, and normal access to streets and nearby parking lots — including the CVS (on the drive through side), and 7-Eleven areas — had resumed.
No official information has yet been released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department regarding the circumstances of the incident. Whittier 360 News Network will provide additional updates if and when authorities release confirmed details.
